Tobacco Cessation

Tobacco use can lead to tobacco/nicotine dependence and serious health problems. Cessation can considerably reduce the risk of suffering from smoking-related diseases. Tobacco/nicotine dependence is a chronic condition that often requires repeated interventions, but effective treatments and helpful resources do exist. In particular smoking has significant detrimental effects on society. Every year hundreds of thousands of people around the world die from diseases caused by smoking cigarettes and other tobacco products. This comprehensive project has several objectives which range from conducting research on the economic burden of smoking in Qatar, reducing mortality attributed to tobacco, education programs and ensuring adaptation and adherence to the tobacco law.

As the National Health Strategy Program 2011-2016 draws to a close, project information is currently being updated and will be available in the coming weeks.
